Like all rural Sheriff's Departments the growth was not seen until the late 70's or early 80's. The years past the department was staffed by the sheriff, his wife, and one deputy. The sheriffs wife was usually the cook for the inmates meals and worked as communication and correctional officer. In the late 1970's under the administration of Robert J. Mason additional Deputies and Communication officers were added to bring the staff to five deputies and two communication officers.
During the next 20 years under the administration of Sheriff Harley Melton and Stephen K. Cradick the staff now totals 10 Deputies, 7 Correctional Officers, 6 Communication Officers, 3 Food Service Personnel, and 2 Support Staff.
