A 22-year-old man suffered head injuries Friday afternoon when the all-terrain vehicle he was driving crashed into another car in northwest Owen County.

Colt Cooley of Poland was transported by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, according to the Owen County Sheriff's Department. He was treated at the emergency room and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

The Owen County Sheriff's Department responded to the accident at 4:32 p.m. in front of a residence in the 9100 block of Uncle Ed's Cabin Road, Indiana Conservation Officer Dale Clark said.

Cooley was driving a 1987 Yamaha 350 four-wheeler southbound on the gravel road about 4:30 p.m. Friday when he topped a hill crest and hit a 1997 Buick LaSabre that was headed north, according to Clark.

"They both crested a hill and collided at the top of the hill," Clark said.

The Buick, hit in the driver's side door, was driven by Sheri Weaver, 35, of Poland. She was wearing her seat belt and was not injured, according to Clark.

Cooley was not wearing a helmet, Clark said, adding that he suffered a severe cut to the head and complained of neck and back pain.

The accident is still being investigated, Clark said.

The Owen County Emergency Medical Service and Poland Fire Department assisted at the scene.
