Stolen vehicles found, three people arrested

A year's worth of investigations culminated Thursday in the arrests of three people in connection with several stolen vehicles allegedly being found at an Owen County salvage yard.

Kenny L. Crawford, 38, of Poland; Deborah D. Crawford, 38, of Poland; and Lorie K. Louis, 37, of Indianapolis, were arrested Thursday evening. Each faces multiple charges.

Police said a search of Crawford's Auto Parts turned up two stolen vehicles, five vehicles without identification numbers and under 30 grams of marijuana.

The investigation began a year ago, when people complained to several police agencies about activities at the salvage yard.

"We gathered up enough information to go before a judge on Wednesday for a search warrant," said Indiana State Police officer Byron Goodman.

Goodman accused Kenny Crawford of running an unlicensed salvage yard. Goodman also said that officers are continuing to investigate the nearly 200 other vehicles on the 40-acre lot to see if any of them are stolen.

Goodman said Louis was in possession of 12 pills of hydrocodone, a schedule III controlled substance.

Kenny Crawford was booked into the Owen County Jail at 10:55 p.m. Thursday on preliminary charges that include Class C felony possession of altered VIN, Class D felony possession of stolen property, Class D felony receiving stolen property, and possession of marijuana under 30 grams. He is being held in lieu of $23,650 bond.

Deborah D. Crawford was booked into the Owen County Jail at 10:55 p.m. Thursday on preliminary charges of maintaining a common nuisance, possession of marijuana under 30 grams and reckless possession of paraphernalia. She is being held in lieu of $3,650 bond.

Louis was booked into the Owen County Jail at 10:55 p.m. Thursday on preliminary charges of Class D felony possession of a schedule III controlled substance and reckless possession of paraphernalia. He is being held in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Indiana State Police at the Bloomington and Putnamville posts, the Owen County Sheriff's Department, the Owen County prosecutor's office, the Indianapolis Police Department, the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles special sales division and the Indiana State Police auto theft unit assisted in the investigation.
